WARNING FROM PIRSA ON RUSSIAN WHEAT APHID

Published

on

Primary Industries and Regions SA (PIRSA) have released an update on reports of the Russian Wheat Aphid repeatedly being found in the Mid North, upper Yorke Peninsula and the Riverland, both in seed-treated and non-seed-treated cereals.

The Russian Wheat Aphid is among the most economically important and invasive pests of wheat, barley and other cereal grains.

PIRSA has released reports suggesting significant migrations have occurred, although these aphids are too late to cause any issues in standing crops.

PIRSA have deduced there is no current threat of the Russian Wheat Aphid overwhelming the crop population, but asks individuals keep reporting.
