Port Augusta COVID Breaches exposed

Published

on

A report has revealed that the residents of Port Augusta have been fined for breaching corona virus restrictions more than those in the whole of metropolitan Adelaide.

41 expiation notices have been issued, with a population of around 13,00 people, compared to 31 fines in Adelaide, with a population 100 times that size at 1.3 million.

Greens MLC Tammy Franks has alleged these statistics are correlated to unfair targeting by police in lower income communities as residents in wealthier parts of Adelaide were rarely fined.

SA Police strongly refuted Ms Franks accusations stating the focus was on community education, fining people only when cautions are not heeded.
